Welcome to ArchæoFood !

ArchæoFood is an online, open access database dedicated to the study of plant-based foodstuffs from archaeological sites around the world. Its aim is to aid researchers investigating ancient foods to find other plant-based preparations.

On this website, you will find:

An explorable map of all recorded findings, which you can sort by time frame, preparation type, ingredients and more;
Object sheets containing data on each foodstuff and its corresponding site;
A registration area to create an account and share your own data.

Please note - In its early stages, this database was focused mainly on food preparations from the Near-East and Europe. However, if you work on other regions, you are more than welcome to join us and help expand the database with plant-based preparations from around the world, may they be wheat, rice, or maize-based, and more!
